How to Work a Recruiting Referral

How to Work a Recruiting Referral

Most recruiting still happens through referral.

Do you have a process and script to follow-up with referrals? If not, try this one.

==========
Step 1. Send a Text/Facebook Message.

Hi John, this is Ellen Carter, the manager of the Ballard Home Run Realty office. Carol Simmons asked me to reach out to you because she has been impressed with the work you’ve been doing in our marketplace. Would you have time in the next week or so to grab a coffee with me? I’d love to hear about business and your plans/goals for 2020. Thanks, Ellen

Step 2. Follow-up with a Call / Voicemail.

If you don’t get a response from the text or Facebook message, then call and reference your previous attempt to contact.

The phone call or voicemail should go something like this:

Hi John, not sure if you saw the message, but I reached out to you earlier this week via Facebook on a referral from Carol Simmons. Carol asked me to reach out to you because she has been impressed with the work you’ve been doing in our marketplace and thought we should talk…

Step 3. Final Text / Facebook Message.

If you left a voicemail, then follow-up with a final text.

Hi John, I just left you a voicemail. Since we didn’t connect on the phone, perhaps it would be easier to connect via text. Do you have time to grab a coffee with me sometime in the next week or so? Shoot me back a day/time that works for you and I’ll try to flex to meet your availability. Thanks!

There is nothing magical about these scripts.

They’ll work a lot better if the prospect you’re pursing respects and values the opinion of your referral source.

So, find good referral sources and then use the scripts. An unused script never works.
