Raising the Performance Standard

Raising the Performance Standard

What if you ran your office like Towards Data Science runs their online learning portal?

Towards Data Science allows anyone to submit an article to their site, but to be published you must demonstrate you undertook your own study and submit your findings.

Most people who get published address a new topic or approach an existing topic in a new way.

They have high standards and enforce them. Also, there are a finite number of publishing spots available.

If you do get published, it’s a significant accomplishment. You’re in a special club of innovative high performers.

Not everyone makes the cut.

Those who can’t meet the high standard are welcomed as readers, but not allowed to be contributors.

Instead of lowering standards to get more content, they’ve raised standards to get better content.

When your competitors lower their standards to increase their agent count, counter by raising your standards so the best and brightest have a place to land.

As we discussed last week, perform most of the recruiting tasks as if you’re non-selective (let anyone submit an article), but only invite those to join your team who you’re convinced can perform.

After the hire, only keep those who are contributing above your minimum standard.
